TLC Pantry Inc is part of the legacy of Trinity Lutheran Church in Regina’s Heritage Neighbourhood. The TLC Pantry program began during the COVID-19 pandemic. When much of the city’s downtown bustle was shut down, poverty and food insecurity in core areas were starkly revealed.
Trinity had already been offering emergency groceries to a growing number of our neighbours. During the early days of COVID, church staff and volunteers began preparing bagged lunches to serve, so that what we share with our neighbours could be more organized and consistent. Within a few weeks of beginning this lunch program, Indigenous Christian Fellowship offered to coordinate sandwiches for our lunch bags four days a week, which helped our resources stretch much farther.
Initially, the TLC Pantry was supported financially solely through donations from individuals, congregations, and other organizations. As the program has grown, and more people and families have come to rely on our lunches to help them make ends meet, we have been supported through grants and partnerships with other community programs.
When Trinity closed as a congregation, the TLC Pantry began the process of becoming its own independent charitable entity. Through our relationship with MayBell Developments and Lillium Village Childcare, we are able to serve our lunch program from the same building which once housed the Trinity congregation.
